River Song Cosplay

It's about time that I embraced my inner geek and got back into fandom, so what better place to start than on LJ. After getting back from the Hub 5 (Post to follow) I have decided to tackle the world of cosplaying, not that I know what I'm doing, and am going to cosplay River Song.

I could have chosen the simple 1930s dress she wears in The Time of Angels or even the easier costume of desert fatigues, but no.. I've got my heart set upon wearing the outfit from The Pandorica Opens which is both expensive and super hard to find.

The good news is that Heather has found me the belt, but the bad news is that her belt is £65 quid which is super steep. Other than that I'm stuck looking for the right jacket, a gilet that has the right kind of wool lining (so I can wear it reversed), boots and leggins. It all looks easy, but the second you try to source things you quickly realise that the BBC has a conspiracy out against cosplayers he he he.

So I'm struggling to find the pieces I need, but the good thing is that I have some time before I want to wear it to gather the bits and pieces and, hopefully, by the next Hub there will be easier River Song costumes to get.

Writer's Block: A riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma

What message would you put into a fortune cookie?

"Even in the darkest night there is light"

It might be super naieve of me, but I've believed that ever since I was a kid and it hasn't left me even now. I really believe that there is good in every one of us and that no matter how dark the night gets there is always light to be found to show us the way, we just need to open our eyes to it.

River Song and Doctor Who.

I was going to wait until next Saturday but I just can't stop thinking about Saturday's episode. Is it just me or is Dr River Song just the best *companion* ever? I think I have a heterosexual crush on her because I can't seem to shake the feeling that she's just the most awesome person ever... I even went so far as to call her the *Female Doctor* today. I just can't seem to gush enough about how wonderful I think she is.

Anyway, I've decided that I'm going to attempt to Cosplay Dr Song,... yeah I know, she doesn't really have any interesting costumes, but it's very rare that I come across a character I really like so I'm going to give it a shot. Suggestions are always welcome!!!

As for Saturday's episode; it was great, wasn't it? I think that with the exception of the dumb arse speech that everyone else loved it was a brilliant episode and it's got me looking at the clock wishing the week away. I want it to be Saturday already!!! I'm not going to go into the episode in any detail because of Spoilers for those few people in the US who haven't downloaded the episode ahead of their tv airing it, but I will say that if you're a Doctor Who fan and you haven't get watched it... go watch!

I'll be back on Saturday night with a full run down of what I thought of the episode as a whole.

Original Character Meme

Take a few of your original characters and tell us...

1. How you thought of their name
2. What made you create the character in the first place
3. How the character has changed over time (if they have changed)
4. Any random fun fact about that character

I have a handful of characters who reoccur but for the sake of space I'll tell you about my favorite.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything to LJ and I guess that it’s partly my fault, but I’m going to lay most of the blame on Ianto Jones.

I watched Children Of Earth and afterwards I found that I couldn’t write anymore.. not that I couldn’t physically write but I just couldn’t find the words. My Torchwood fic still lies half finished on my office desk where I left it and every time I look at the pages I feel a lump in my throat. It was a love story.. Jack and Ianto, a love that transcends time and space. I want to write it and at the same time hate the idea of writing it. Ianto Jones isn’t gone, he can’t be gone, can he?

So, this week I started a whole new fic and was surprised to find myself writing another Torchwood piece. The story centres on Ianto Jones (surprise surprise) and deals with his childhood, touching on his relationship with his dad and exploring the mysterious background of the man known as Ianto Jones. Not sure how it’s going to turn out yet, but if it gets me writing Ianto again I’m happy.

Writer's Block: Proven by Science

Do you believe everything has a scientific explanation?

If you look, even for the briefest moment, into the world of science you will find that many scientists go through life with the idea that everything can be explained, believing that the unexplained is just beyond their reach and it is that search for truth that keeps scientists pushing the barriers of knowledge. This is a great idea until you dig a tiny bit deeper and realise just how many of the scientific community turn to a spiritual concept at some point or other in their lives. It seems that no matter how hard you look, how deep you dig, or how much money you throw into research; sooner or later you hit an impasse and all scientific reason. The spark of life... eternally just beyond the reach of all who have tried to find it who are forced to admit that that initial tiny spark eludes them all the more.

Maybe one day everything will be explained by science, but for right now science only goes so far before we have to put ourselves in the hands of the unexplained.

Writer's Block: Memo To Myself

If you could travel back in time, what advice would you give to your younger self?

Some simple truths to get by in life.

·        Higlights..yes.

·        Dating anyone called Matthew...no.

·        Mai Tai’s ... yes.

·        Perming your hair... hell no! Stay away from those curlers.

·        Contrary to popular belief, Chocolate IS a major food group.

·        No matter how gorgeous your nan says you look in that dress she bought for school picture day say no, ten year olds do NOT understand the meaning of ironic fashion statements.

·        Those braces might seem gross now, but believe me you want to say yes because they cost a FORTUNE when you’re older.

·        Two words ... JIMMY and CHOO

·        Don’t ever miss an episode of Doctor Who, you’re gonna be a geek anyway, may as well get started on it now.

·        When JT tells you he loves you, don’t laugh in his face and then spend the rest of the night crying because you wished you’d said you loved him too. Grab that boy and snog his face off.

·        GCSE does not stand for “Get Carole stoned everyday”

·        Two more words... Marc Jacobs

·        Parisian men may look like the great unwashed, but they're actually very sexy. Wait until you meet Sebastien!

·        Remember the name Ianto; trust me, you’ll thank me one day!

·        Lastly.. if someone asks you to go back in time to impart some pearls of wisdom to your past self, tell em to sod off... it’ll take up wayyyy too much Torchwood time.

Writer's Block: Unlikely Benefactor

Congratulations! You won a million dollars but you have to give it all away. How will you distribute the money?
Alzheimers Society would get the money. Cancer you can treat and quite often cure, but it's diseases such as Alzheimers that affects so many (not all who have the illness themselves) that so greatly need a cash injection to aid their ongoing research... research that has come on leaps and bounds over the last few years alone. Who knows, maybe that one last million could be the difference between losing someone slowly to this agonizing and often very scary disease and seeing your grandfather, mother, husband light up each morning because they recognise your face.
